With EarOne you can discover new songs, emerging artists and the dynamics behind today's hits. But before we do that we want to introduce you to the common terminology of airplay.
Airplay charts are indexes that measure the frequency with which songs are played by radio and tv stations. These charts are used to determine the popularity and success of individual songs or artists, based on the number of airplays. They are essential tools for the music industry to evaluate which songs are receiving the most interest and reception from the broadcasters.
Radio date indicates the date on which a song can be played for the first time on the radio. This moment marks the official beginning of the song's promotion on the radio and its potential entry into the charts.
Highest Climbers are songs that have seen the greatest jump in radio airplay over a given period. This term is used to identify songs that have rapidly gained popularity, demonstrating a strong increase in radio airplay reception.
Highest New Entries are new songs that have entered the charts for the first time and reached the highest positions. This term identifies songs that have achieved a significant impact since their debut, indicating strong interest from radio stations.
How we generate charts
Charts are generated by listening to songs played by a representative sample of Italian broadcasters, up to 200 radio stations, grouped by national stations, superstations, local stations, web radio and exclusively music television stations.
We distinguish two types of charts: by score and by plays.
The score is determined by the number of plays a song gets and the audience data of the station that plays it based on the day and time slot. The higher the score, the more popular the song.
Charts by plays instead take into account exclusively the number of plays of the song.
If a song exists in multiple versions, such as remixes of the same track, we sum scores or plays of all versions together to get the final value.
The official charts are updated weekly and the reference period is from 00:00 on Friday to 23:59 on Thursday. This allows us to offer a complete and accurate overview of the musical trends of each week.
The midweek charts and published on Tuesdays, represent a snapshot of airplay from 00:00 on Friday until 23:59 on Monday and offer an up-to-date overview of the situation since the beginning of the airplay week. These charts are designed to keep you informed of the latest movements and trends in the music industry.
