The Kills, the rock duo of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince, will release the Happier Girls EP this Friday, September 20 on Domino. Recorded at Grammy-winning producer Paul Epworth’s Church Studios in London with engineer Riley McIntyre, the EP comes via physical and digital formats: a 7” vinyl features a soulful cover of Billie Eilish’s 2021 smash hit single “Happier Than Ever” on the A-side and a new non-electric version of “My Girls My Girls,” the standout ballad from the band’s dynamic 2023 Epworth-produced LP God Games, on the flip. The digital EP will add non-electric versions of three more God Games tracks - “103,” “New York,” and “Better Days.”
Today the band shares their cover of “Happier Than Ever.” “It’s all Sirius XM’s fault,” says Mosshart. “We were asked to do an acoustic session with them last year and they’d asked for a cover as part of the session. I’d always really dug ‘Happier Than Ever’ and found myself singing it around the house all the time. It seemed like a good choice, since I loved it and loved singing it. After that radio session hit the airwaves, Laurence Bell from Domino reached out to us enamored with our acoustic version of the song and asked us to do an electric recording. Here we were in London, recording a non-electric EP and what’s the first song on it? An electric cover of the acoustic cover we did… and the more electricity the better. Thank you Billie for writing such a brilliant song!”
The Kills’ most recent album God Games was released in 2023 to international acclaim from fans and critics - NME hailed it as “a testament to their new era, one that sees them push each other out of their comfort zones and explore new ways to keep adapting their iconic sound, providing a grand and edgy comeback that is as fresh as can be,” and Paper raved, “God Games… pull[s] us back into their world of gritty rock and roll while dragging us into a fresh, imaginative sonic territory.”
Following headlining tours across North America, the UK, and Europe, the Kills will play headlining shows in Jackson, Mississippi and New Orleans this fall as well as festival appearances at Mempho Music Festival in Memphis, the Billy Reid Shindig in Florence, Alabama, and Festival Hipnosis in Mexico City this fall.
