Dopo 10 miliardi di streaming, 12 milioni di vendite di album, sei dischi al numero 1 nel Regno Unito e due singoli certificati platino negli Stati Uniti, The Script annunciano l'uscita del loro nuovo album "Satellites" prevista per il 16 agosto 2024, via BMG.
Ad accompagnare l'annuncio l'inedito "Both Ways", primo estratto dal disco, disponibile da venerdì 17 maggio in radio e su tutte le piattaforme digitali.
La band ha inoltre annunciato un tour UK ed Europa che accompagnerà la release del disco.
L'unica data italiana prevista è per il prossimo 11 dicembre al Fabrique di Milano.
"Both Ways" segna il ritorno dei The Script con una traccia terribilmente energica e vivace, caratterizzata da ritmi hip-hop e funky che fanno da cornice alle incredibili doti vocali di Danny. Il risultato è un cocktail esplosivo che ci fa subito pensare ai Black Eyed Peas che suonano "Locked Out of Heaven" di Bruno Mars ed è completamente diverso da tutto ciò che The Script hanno pubblicato fino ad oggi.
Glen Power ha affermato sul singolo: "Both Ways is high energy, and maybe not what people might expect from us. But we’re The Script, and now we have something to prove: that there is life and light after the darkness. It’s why we’re coming fast and strong with that one.".
Dopo la perdita, avvenuta lo scorso anno, del loro compagno di band e amico Mark Sheehan, e come omaggio e rispetto verso di lui, la band ha voluto fortemente continuare a portare avanti ciò che avevano costruito tutti insieme nel corso degli anni.
Il frontman Danny O’Donoghue è così tornato in studio e ha voluto sperimentare e mettersi nuovamente in gioco usando, ad esempio, un 808 e giocando con suoni di ispirazione R&B, concentrandosi su sonorità ritmiche vivaci e scrivendo insieme a Steve Robson (Rascal Flatts, Take That) e a Wayne Hector (One Direction, Nicki Minaj) oltre che, ovviamente, con il compagno di band Glen Power.
Ciò che è emerso è "Satellites", una raccolta di canzoni assolutamente ispirate che aprono le porte a un nuovo futuro per The Script, ricordando che anche se Mark non è più qui fisicamente, rimane una parte vitale di tutto ciò che sono e saranno.
Danny ha spiegato: “The album cover is silhouettes of me, Glen and Ben Sargeant, our bassist, who's been with us from the beginning. Then we have a hooded silhouette, because the air of Mark is still there. He always will be, but it's also giving a tip of the hat to the future. It'll never be the same Script. We're just trying to get on and do what it is that we all feel is the next right thing to do and that’s to keep making more great music.".
Dopo essersi esibiti nel 2023 in alcuni show selezionati per commemorare la perdita di Mark, la band, prima di tornare sui grandi palchi questo autunno, sta per partire per un lunghissimo tour di supporto a P!nk nel Regno Unito, Europa e America.
Il tour nei club li porterà a suonare per oltre 2 milioni di fan in tutto il mondo; come special guest ci sarà Tom Walker, in tutte le date tranne Berlino, Monaco e Milano
