Talking about their union and new single, Gotts Street Park describe “Got To Be Good, came together pretty fast. Whenever we’ve been in the room with Pip, it’s pretty free and fruitful. When a song comes together like this, we don’t overthink it or alter the final take too much and just hope to have the same energy come through to the listener as we felt in the room creating it.”
Commenting further on the single’s lyrics, Millett says “Got To Be Good is about pulling yourself out of the darkness. You have to really want for a change in order to pull away from that sadness, and that’s what I was writing about.”
‘Got To Be Good’ arrives alongside a video which acts as the song's aesthetic anchor depicting the universal feelings of isolation and unwanted solitude, directed by Harvey Pearson.
Debut album ‘On The Inside’ is a 12-track window into Gotts Street Park’s world. It’s a world that has been expanding since the group was formed in Leeds by Josh Crocker, Tom Henry and Joe Harris. What began as an outlet for their shared love for sixties Motown, soon became a jewel in the Yorkshire scene’s creative crown, with over 65 million Spotify streams to their name and some of hip-hop and pop’s most exciting emerging voices requesting collaborations: Celeste, Kali Uchis, Yellow Days and Rachel Chinouriri are just a few of the acts the band have individually written/produced for. In 2021, the trio dropped ‘Diego’, a cinematic EP inspired by The Godfather and the works of Japanese auteur YasujirÅ Ozu. After building legions of fans with velvety singles like Everything feat. Devon-born singer Rosie Lowe and Favourite Kind of Girl feat. Swedish talent Flikka, it was a cinematic curve-ball that underlined their impossible-to-pin-down energy.
‘Diego’ bolstered Gotts Street Park’s reputation as analogue-inspired visionaries carving something new from something old, with Loud and Quiet, BBC 6 Music, Clash and The Line of Best Fit among the outlets singing their praises. Now, that acclaim is set to grow with the release of ‘On The Inside’ which finds the band at their most confident and assured. The album will be available as LP / CD / Digital / Ltd Dinked Edition (500 copies).
